The Department of Medicine conducts an Annual Research Day every year since the past 15 years. The event aims to assess, exhibit and invigorate research within and outside the department. It will include:
  • Introductory Session, Research Highlights and Award Distribution by Dr Zainab Samad, Chair of the Department of Medicine, AKU
  • Present State and Future Vision of Research 
  • Game Changing International Trials that directly impact Practice 
  • A webinar on the Five Habits of Successful Clinical Researchers, by Daniel Benjamin Mark, MD, Professor of Medicine, Member in the Duke Clinical Research Institute
This year’s event also has a precursor of workshops attached to the day, which will conclude with its own highlights and exhibition of work by participants. These workshops are designed to develop skills that aid and enrich the process of research in various aspects. Details of each can be found below.

1. Let’s Write the Grant that You Dreamt About | Register here 
Every Thursday | 3:00-5:00 pm | 4 sessions*

Learning Outcomes
  • Completed the first draft of their grants
  • Learnt the nuts and bolts of the scientific portion of their grant writing
  • Learnt to review and critique write ups to understand what reviewers want
  • *Participants will be required to attend all four sessions

2. The Nuts and Bolts of Responsible Research | Register here
Every Wednesday | 3:00-5:00 pm | 5 independent sessions

Learning Outcomes
  • Participants will get the idea about submitting a national and international grant
  • Get hands-on Endnote and literature search using PubMed
  • Learn the basics of designing a budget and getting approvals from finance, HR, CTU, etc. through PeopleSoft
  • Learn about research misconducts and how to avoid them

3. Brace yourself for the Data Revolution | Register here 
Every Tuesday | 3:00-5:00 pm | 4 independent sessions

Learning Outcomes
  • Get a glimpse of latest data science research and impact in health
  • Hands on activities to see how they could use data science for their own research

4. The 04 Weeks Manuscript Challenge | Register here
Every Monday | 3:00-5:00 pm | 4 sessions*

Learning Outcomes
  • Gain better understanding of writing different sections in a manuscript
  • Obtain hands-on experience in writing a manuscript
  • Complete a first draft of the manuscript ready for review by co authors
*Participants will be required to attend all four sessions
