Convocation 2013​

The University held its 26th Convocation ceremony​ in Pakistan on Thursday, December 19, 2013. The ceremony had spe​cial significance as several milestones were achieved; it was the 30th graduating class of School of Nursing and Midwifery, the 25th graduating class of Medical College, and the 20th anniversary of the start of the Institute for Educational Development.​

This year, the Chancellor, the members of Board of Trustees, alumni, faculty and staff honoured 376 graduates at the Convocation ceremony. 

The School of Nursing and Midwifery graduated 205 students of which 13 were conferred with the Master of Science in Nursing and 143 the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees. The school also awarded 49 students the Diploma in General Nursing.

The Medical College conferred a total of 117 degrees which included; 5 doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences, 8 Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, 4 Master of Science in Health Policy and Management, a degree each of Master of Science in Clinical Research and Master of Health Professions Education and 98 Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degrees. Medical College also awarded the Advanced Diploma in Human Development to 13 graduands and Advanced Diploma in Health Professions Education to 7 graduands.

Valedictorian Maryam Baqir, ​MBBS programme​​ addressed the graduands.​​​

Twenty five degrees were conferred in the Institute for Educational Development including 2 Doctor of Philosophy in Education and 23 Master of Education degrees.

As this year’s Convocation ceremony in Pakistan was graced by Chancellor himself, the graduands of Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations, which is based in London, were also given an opportunity to receive their degrees in this Convocation. The Institute had 9 graduands in Master of Arts in Muslim Cultures.

After the degrees were conferred, it was the time to recognize the high achievers among the graduands. Tooba Ali of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme received the Best Graduate Award for achieving the highest aggregate score in the Certifying Examinations throughout the five-year programme leading to the MBBS degree. Hina Amirali was the recipient of the Best Graduate Award in the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

The University also took time to present Awards of Distinction. Dr Thomas Christie​ was presented the University Award of Disti​​​nction while Dr Anita Kaniz Mehdi Zaidi and Ms Jacqueline Maria Dias were presented the Award of Excellence in Research and Education, respectively. Finally, Dr Shamsh Kassim-Lakha​, the former and founding President of Aga Khan University, was presented the honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Letters.
