MEd and COVID-19

Will you consider offering online learning because of travelling restrictions?

Currently, the programme is a full-time face-to-face learning.


How will the interview be conducted?

Interviews will be conducted online using any of the following: Zoom, tele-conference or Microsoft Teams, as is convenient to the candidates.


What measures does the University employ during this COVID-19 era to fight the disease?

The University follows strict COVID-19 protocols as provided by government authorities for protection of students, staff and faculty. These include temperature checks, social distancing, and wearing masks.


​Applying to the Programme

How do I apply?

Applicants are required to apply online at the portal www.aku.edu/apply-online​. The portal starts accepting applications when admissions open, If you need any support in completing your online application please visit us or contact us at regoff.tz@aku.edu.


How do I know I am shortlisted for interview?

Successful candidates will receive a notification through email registered during application, followed by mobile SMS and phone call.


Do you accept fresh graduates?

MEd programme is a professional development programme. The candidate is required to have at least two years of experience in an educational setting. Therefore, fresh graduates are not eligible to apply.


Can I apply if my degree is from a field of study other than education?

Yes, applicants from any field of study can apply if they have experience in an educational institution.


Do you offer work-study programme?

Yes, we do offer work-study opportunities. For further details, please contact us at regoff.tz@aku.edu.


Is this a one-year programme and  research project is also taken in that specific year? 

Yes, this is a one-year programme. Research project is part of the programme. There are two terms for course work (January-August). Preparation for third term comprising of proposal writing and def​ense starts in July. Data collection and report writing starts in August and continues till  December.


Is there any age limit for applicants?

No, there is no age limit for applicants.


How many times can one apply  for the program?

You can apply as many times as you wish.


If an applicant qualifies to be in the waitlist for a particular year and eventually does not get admission offer. Will he/she get selected automatically in the next year?

No. All applications and decisions on selection are considered for each cycle of admissions.


Fees and Funding 

What is the application fee?

Application fee is Tshs 50,000 for Tanzanians and USD 50 for non-Tanzanians.


How do I pay if I am not in Tanzania? 

Through online payment, MPESA, cash deposit or bank transfer to the University account. Full details are available in the Admission Information document on the programme page.


Is there any scholarship available?​ If yes, what is the criteria for award of scholarship?

Yes, there are limited scholarships available that are given on merit. For further details, please contact us at regoff.tz@aku.edu.


Is there any financial support available?

Yes. Upon selection into the programme, students can apply for need-based financial assistance on a prescribed form.
