Our Commitment

AKU takes seriously its responsibility to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts.

The University commits to making a positive impact through outstanding environmental sustainability performance, and to harness the full range of the University's expertise and influence for this purpose. AKU recognizes that it has an impact on the environment at local, national and global levels, and aims to address and reduce its footprint at each stage.

Core commitments

  • Strive towards carbon neutrality for all operations al emissions by 2030 and, subsequently, continue to reduce our absolute emissions.

  • Work on greening our supply chain by revising our processes and supporting our suppliers on their own sustainability journeys.

  • Build climate resilience of the communities we serve, such as through assessing climate risks and research on the complex linkages between climate change and health.

  • Influence wider change, including sharing our innovations and working with governments and other bodies to encourage high levels of ambition and action for clean, green and low-carbon development.
