We offer specialist training in Family Medicine leading to the award of a Master of Medicine (MMed) degree. Family medicine is the medical specialty of first contact with the patients and is devoted to providing preventive, promotive, rehabilitative and curative care with emphasis on the physical, psychological and social aspects for the patient, his family and the community. The scope is not limited by system, organ, disease entity, age or sex.
Trainees are exposed to a wide range of clinical problems and are offered the opportunity to acquire skills in a variety of procedures with a team-based approach to patient care. The four-year programme offers clinical training in family medicine and other medical subspecialties. The courses/rotations include:

The department provides continuous professional development for faculty and technical staff associated with the Aga Khan University, Medical College, East Africa and Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and its associated Outreach Health Clinics and Primary Medical Centers.
The faculty and residents are engaged in research at various levels including dissertation and innovative research in primary care and medical education. We also encourage collaborative research with other private and public institutions, international collaborative research and exchange of ideas for faculty/resident development.
