Investigators
The Principal Investigator for this project is the Distinguished University Professor & Founding Director of the Institute for Global Health and Development at Aga Khan University, Dr. Zulfiqar A. Bhutta. Assisting in this endeavor is the Co-Principal Investigator, Dr. Jai Das, who holds the position of Associate Director at the Institute for Global Health and Development and Architect Humaira Nazir, who is a postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Global Health and Development.
About the Project
The escalating climate crisis, marked by rising temperatures and frequent and intense heatwaves and other natural disasters like floods is straining healthcare systems in low-resource settings. The project aims to address the escalation by modifying the existing health facilities through proposing locally suitable and acceptable interventions. It will provide practical architectural solutions that can be used in various settings. The project specifically targets public healthcare facilities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with a focus on Sindh, Pakistan.
Objectives
- Assessment of healthcare facilities in the district of Matiari
- Proposing practical, low-cost, sustainable, and climate-responsive interventions to modify the existing facilities that are suitable to the unique environmental and infrastructural challenges for healthcare facilities.
- Make a climate resilient and environmentally sustainable design proposal for a new ambulatory healthcare facility.
