Dr Felix Riunga, MBChB, MMeD  

Senior Instructor and Section Head

Dr Felix Riunga is the Section Head of Infectious Diseases at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nairobi in 2006, and his Masters in Medicine from the Aga Khan University, Nairobi in 2014.  He later pursued specialty training in Infectious Diseases at the Aga Khan University, Nairobi. Currently Dr Riunga serves as an Infectious Diseases consultant at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi.  

Dr Riunga is the recipient of the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Trustee Fund Award, Chandaria and Kamala Memorial Awards from the University of Nairobi. In addition to teaching medical students and residents, Dr. Riunga’s interests include ICU-related infectious diseases and HIV associated cryptococcal meningitis.  He is an active member of the HIV Clinicians Society of Kenya.​​​

Prof Reena Shah, MSCID, MRCP, FRCP (Edinburgh) FRCP (London)  
Professor and Chair, Department of Medicine​

Prof Reena Shah, is the Chair, Department of Internal Medicine at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. She received her MBBS degree from the University of Southampton (UK) in 1996 and her MRCP from the Royal College of Physicians London in 2000. Prof Shah also holds a Masters in Infectious Diseases from the University of London since 2008. 

She also obtained a Diploma in Infectious Diseases from the University of London, UK in 2006 as well as a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases from the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (UK) in 2009. She obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of Edinburgh in 2014 and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of London in 2018.

Prof Shah’s area of interest is Infectious Diseases with a specific focus on HIV/AIDS, TB, COVID-19, malaria, and Hepatitis B. In Kenya, these diseases are of prime public health importance and there is a tremendous need for applied research, development of improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, development of guidelines and contribution to national policy. She has been active in setting up the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at the hospital.

Currently, she is the lead HIV Clinician for HIV Services at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya. Nationally she is the Vice Chair of the HIV Clinicians Society of Kenya, the Vice Chair of the Kenya Sepsis Alliance and an Executive Member of the Infectious Diseases Society of Kenya.​

Dr Adil Salyani, MBChB, MMeD, FCP (ECSA)​

Dr Adil Salyani is a Senior Instructor and Consultant Infectious Diseases Specialist at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa.

Dr Salyani graduated from the University of Nairobi with a MBChB degree in 2008 and earned his MMed degree in Internal Medicine from Aga Khan University in 2020. He completed his fellowship in Infectious Disease at Aga Khan University in 2023. 

Dr Salyani is a member of the Kenya Association of Physicians (KAP) and the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACOP). His areas of interests include antimicrobial resistance and stewardship, hepatitis B and infections in immunocompromised hosts.
