​Dr Irfan Hussain joined CRM in November 2021. He is part of the Grand Challenge Fund project that aims to develop novel gene editing therapies for beta-thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia. Before joining CRM, Dr Irfan was working as the Director of Research and Development at Biotech International Scientific Pvt. Ltd. He is among the peers who developed the first RT PCR kit for COVID-19 testing in Pakistan. 
 
Dr Irfan has a PhD in Bioinformatics from the National Center of Bioinformatics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. During his PhD, he generated the Gli3 knockout Zebrafish model to study Gli3 brain deformities. ​
