Dr Jacob Shabani
Assistant Professor
Dr Jacob Shabani is an Assistant Professor and Chair, Department of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University Medical College East Africa. He obtained his MBChB from the University of Nairobi in 2000, followed by an MMed from Aga Khan University, East Africa, in 2009. He further specialized with a Postgraduate Diploma in Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine from the University of South Wales.
He is actively involved in professional organizations, serving as an executive member of the Kenya Association of Family Physicians and contributing to the establishment of the College of Family Physicians of Eastern and Central Africa. He is also a member of the Kenya Cardiac Society and the African Family Medicine Group.
Dr Benjamin Wachira
Assistant Professor
Dr Benjamin Wachira is an Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. He earned a Diploma in Primary Emergency Care (Dip PEC) from the College of Emergency Medicine of South Africa in 2007, followed by a Master of Medicine (MMed) from the University of Cape Town in 2011.
He also holds a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine (FCEM) obtained in 2011. Dr. Wachira is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Emergency Physicians and the College of Emergency Medicine of South Africa. He also serves as an executive committee member of the African Federation for Emergency Medicine.
Dr Catherine Gathu

Dr Catherine Gathu is an Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa Dr Gathu obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi in 2009. She then pursued a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Family Medicine at Aga Khan University, in 2017. Her commitment to advancing medical education led her to earn a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education from the University of South Wales, equipping her with specialized skills in teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and assessment strategies.
She has a special interest in cardio-metabolic medicine, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, her passion for medical education drives her involvement in curriculum development, mentorship, and training initiatives aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of medical practitioners.
She is an active member of the Kenya Association of Family Physicians, contributing to the advancement of family medicine in Kenya. She is dedicated to improving primary healthcare systems and ensuring that evidence-based, patient-centered care remains at the forefront of medical practice.
Dr Logan Rabuogi

Dr Logan Rabuogi is an Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. Dr Rabuogi earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi in 2013 before pursuing his Master of Medicine in Family Medicine at Aga Khan University, which he completed in 2021. His commitment to advancing family medicine is evident in his passion for integrating digital health solutions to improve healthcare accessibility and efficiency. He has a particular interest in concierge family medicine, digital health innovations, and primary care research, aiming to enhance patient-centered care through technology and evidence-based practices.
As a member of the Kenya Association of Family Physicians, Dr. Rabuogi actively contributes to the growth and development of family medicine in Kenya. His dedication to research and innovation in primary care ensures that he remains at the forefront of delivering high-quality medical services tailored to the needs of his patients.
Dr Grace Rwamba

Dr Grace Rwamba is a Senior Instructor, Department of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa.She earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) fr om the University of Nairobi in 2007 and later pursued her Master of Medicine (MMed) in Family Medicine at Aga Khan University, which she completed in 2018.
Her areas of interest encompass not only patient-centered care but also leadership and management in the healthcare sector, ensuring sustainable and high-quality medical services. As a member of the Kenya Association of Family Physicians, Dr. Rwamba actively contributes to the advancement of family medicine in Kenya. Her dedication to safety, occupational health, and healthcare leadership underscores her commitment to improving both individual and community health outcomes.
Dr Norah Obungu

Dr Norah Obungu is an Instructor, Department of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. She earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi in 2014 and went on to complete her Master of Medicine (MMed) in Family Medicine at Aga Khan University in 2022.
Dr Obungu is particularly interested in family medicine, ensuring comprehensive and patient-centered care across all age groups. She is also deeply committed to mental health and well-being, advocating for the integration of mental health services within primary care to improve overall health outcomes.
As a member of the Kenya Association of Family Physicians, Dr. Obungu actively contributes to the growth and development of family medicine in Kenya. Her work reflects a commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery, with a special focus on mental health, education, and holistic patient management.
Dr Peter Kioko

She earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi in 2016 and later pursued a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Family Medicine at Aga Khan University, graduating in 2022.
Dr Kamau is passionate about geriatric care, focusing on the unique healthcare needs of older adults, including preventive care, chronic disease management, and overall well-being. Her expertise in family medicine enables her to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care across all age groups, emphasizing holistic treatment and long-term health management.

Dr Emma Khabure

Dr Emma Khabure is an Instructor, Department of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi in 2016. She then pursued a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Family Medicine at Aga Khan University, completing her specialist training in 2023.
Her clinical and research interests lie in cardiometabolic medicine, with a particular focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. She also has a strong interest in obesity and weight management, promoting holistic, patient-centered approaches to lifestyle modification and long-term health outcomes.
Dr. Khabure is committed to advancing family medicine and strengthening primary healthcare systems in Kenya. She integrates evidence-based practice with compassionate care, ensuring patients receive comprehensive and continuous medical support tailored to their needs. She is a member of the Kenya Association of Family Physicians.
Dr Susan Cheruiyot

Dr Susan Cheruiyot is an Instructor, Department of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. Dr Cheruiyot obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi in 2012. She went on to pursue a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Family Medicine at Aga Khan University, which she completed in 2013. In 2024, she further advanced her expertise by earning a Master of Science (MSc) in Health Economics from the University of South Wales.
Her areas of interest include Primary Health Care and Community-Oriented Primary Care, with a focus on strengthening health systems at the grassroots level. She is also deeply engaged in preventive cardiometabolic medicine, addressing conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases through early intervention and prevention strategies. Additionally, she is passionate about the economics of health, exploring innovative approaches to achieve efficiency in healthcare delivery, and is actively studying the impact of climate change on health outcomes, advocating for resilient and adaptive healthcare systems.
Dr Cheruiyot is a member of the AfriWon Research Theme Group (ARG), where she participates in collaborative research advancing family medicine across Africa. She is also a member of the Kenya Association of Family Physicians and the Kenya Medical Association. Beyond clinical and academic work, she is an active member of the Sema Toastmasters Club (Nairobi), where she hones her communication and leadership skills.
