Message from the Directors

We’re thrilled to bring you the February edition of our newsletter, brimming with the vibrant energy of progress and innovation.

Team CIME is excited to announce that our team is diligently preparing for our upcoming international conference on healthcare simulation. Aptly named SIMPACT (Simulation. Innovation. Multidisciplinary. Person-centered. Accessible. Collaboration. Transformation.), this annual event promises to be a milestone in our journey. With the theme "New Horizons in Simulation," SIMPACT will mark AKU's first-ever international conference dedicated to harnessing the power of simulation-based education for a safer, more skilled healthcare future. Stay tuned for updates as we unveil the date and details of this ground-breaking event.

While SIMPACT will undoubtedly be the highlight of the year, our team is also working diligently on a myriad of new simulation activities designed to enhance your experience and expertise in the field.

We invite you to join us on this exciting journey as we continue to push the boundaries of healthcare simulation and education.

Regards,

Dr. Faisal Ismail and Dr. Michael Moneypenny

Regional Directors (South Asia and East Africa)

The first In-Situ simulation at the hospital operating theatre

In a recent In-Situ simulation held at the operating theatre, CIME introduced Victoria, a high-fidelity birthing simulator, for the first time. The session unfolded unexpectedly when a routine day turned into a critical scenario, testing the team's response to a gynaecological emergency. The simulation began with a Code Blue alert for Victoria, who had just experienced cardiac arrest post-birth.

Student Career Fair

AKU was one of 12 Universities present at the Woodcreek School Universities Fair organised for A-level and BTEC students at the Woodcreek International School on January 12, 2024. Among these, AKU was the only that offered an undergraduate medical programme. AKU, through CIME, exhibited medical simulation on site. Other departments which took part included the Library, GSMC, MC, SONAM, and Registrar’s Office. The wide range of interests and the enthusiastic involvement of schools demonstrated how well the programme worked to encourage students at Woodcreek International School and the visiting schools to become aware of and explore their career options.
