In Memoriam: Professor Charles Docherty
We are deeply
saddened by the passing of our colleague, Professor Charles Docherty, Global
Director, CIME. Professor Docherty passed away peacefully on 13 February 2023
surrounded by his family after battling a serious illness. Professor
Docherty's contributions to healthcare simulation education were
immeasurable, and he will be missed greatly.

Dr Faisal Ismail appointed as Interim Director, CIME
Dr Faisal
Ismail recently assumed the position of Interim Director for CIME. Dr Ismail
is an Associate Professor and Gastroenterologist, as well as Vice-Chair,
Education in the Department of Medicine at AKU. Dr Ismail is an educator with
a keen interest in Healthcare Simulation. He is a Certified Healthcare
Simulation Educator (CHSE), a qualification bestowed by the Society for
Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and has a Masters’ degree in Healthcare Simulation
from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, USA.

CIME celebrates 5 years of pioneering healthcare simulation
Five years
ago, on December 15, 2017, His Highness the Aga Khan inaugurated the AKU's
Centre for Innovation in Medical Education in Pakistan. In the last few
years, CIME has fast acquired the reputation of being the most advanced
healthcare simulation centre in Pakistan and East Africa, and the first in
South Asia to be accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare
(SSH).

Nairobi’s first-ever simulation based Nursing Orientation Programme
The
transition from nursing school to the hospital working environment can be
daunting for nursing graduates as they realize there is a gap between
theoretical knowledge and practical application.
To bridge
this gap, the AKUH's Nursing Education Services (NES), in collaboration with
the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education – Nairobi, conducted the
first-ever simulation based Nursing Orientation Programme on February 2-3,
2023.

Clinical Simulation Educators Programme enhances teaching capacity at
AKU and beyond
The Clinical Simulation Educators Programme (CSEP)
has emerged as an indispensable resource in enhancing the teaching capacity
of faculty members to conduct simulation-based education at the Aga Khan
University and beyond. This intensive five-day in-person programme, delivered
by the centre's qualified educators in partnership with experienced faculty,
is tailored to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to
effectively incorporate clinical simulation into their teaching methodology,
enabling them to deliver high-quality education to their students.
