Simulation spaces at CIME replicate every kind of clinical space from the patient care wards to the mock operation room, obstetric & gynaecology operation room, paediatric resuscitation room, dental lab, cath lab, surgical suite and beyond. Before treating actual patients, students and residents gain skills and confidence in diagnosing and treating a wide range of cases on lifelike mannequins and simulators in an authentic clinical environment.
Each space is fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices and technology. Observation rooms outside med-surg ward, Mock OR, Paeds Resuscitation Room and Obstetric & Gynaecology OR allow for facilitator observation that does not obstruct the simulation experience.
Advanced Skills SimulationThe simulation lab consists of neurosurgery, ophthalmology, urology, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, angiography, laparoscopic, ENT and othersurgical simulators.
This space comprises of four drop-down screens, which can each be individually connected to laptops. The space can accomodate up to four trainees and one instructor during a session on each high fidelity simulator. It can also be separated by flexible sound-proof dividers into four separate sections.
The lab allows students to develop and hone their skills so that they provide patients with the safest and highest quality care.
Simulation WardsWe have four five-bedded simulation wards; the four wards are separated by flexible sound-proof dividers and can be opened up into a Mock Emergency Room for team-training, disaster training. In addition they can be made into two bedded isolation room to teach critical care. Capacity for each bed-side teaching area is four students and one instructor. Hand washing sinks and sanitizers are also installed in each section. This space is identical to hospital ward areas, with clean and soiled utilities. It also has a large store room designed for storing low fidelity mannequins.
Med-Surg WardThe eight bedded ward area is equipped with patient care mannequins, task trainers, and state-of-the-art medical equipment for realistically practicing and demonstrating physical diagnoses, health assessments, and other foundational skills of clinical care. Each bed has an observation or control room. Simulation sessions can be controlled and monitored from the control room.
The capacity for each bed side teaching area is four students and one instructor. Hand washing sinks and sanitizers are also installed at each end. The Med-Surg ward is established with a vision to portray a next-generation hospital ward.
Dental Simulation LabThe lab is equipped with 17 state-of-the-art dental mannequins with 17 adjustable operator stools and dental delivery power driven attachments for hand pieces. The mannequins are adjustable to all positions used for patients during the delivery of dental care in a regular general dental clinic. The dental delivery tray is adjustable and delivers high and slow speed power driven instruments along with a separate air and water hand delivery hose. The dental lamp is capable of three different intensities of LED light. A fully functioning suction system is operational for mainly high volume evacuation. The lab is outfitted with closed circuit television monitors at each unit. Additional equipment such as thermal vibrators for pouring models is also available.
Mock Operation Room (OR)The room has a Human Patient Simulator which can be connected to a real patient monitor and supports mechanical ventilation to deliver more realism for immersive learning. This room mirrors the Exact OR in the hospital, with an OR bed and light.
There is a pendent attached to the ceiling to provide electrical and gas supply during the session. A wide range of gases are also available for use. An LED screen is mounted to display the patient monitor. Simulation sessions can be monitored and controlled from the control room. Hand washing sinks and sanitizers are available in the corridor area.
Obstetric and Gynaecology Operation Room (OR)The room provides a platform for learning high risk obstetric management skills and team training for learners. It utilises state-of-the-art video and audio recording systems so that simulation encounters may be recorded and used in debriefing sessions at a later date or can be streamed live to either our multipurpose rooms or to any other classrooms on campus.
The room is equipped with an OR bed and light. There is a pendent attached to the ceiling to provide electrical and gas supply during the session. A wide range of gases are also available for use.
Paediatrics Resuscitation RoomThis room has a SimBaby which provides a highly realistic patient simulation for the practice of teamwork, leadership and communication skills. The room is equipped with patient beds and a wide range of gases are also available for use. An LED screen is mounted to display patient monitor.
The room is equipped with advanced audiovisual equipment which facilitates the recording of clinical scenarios. Simulation sessions can also be monitored and controlled from the observation room. Hand washing sinks and sanitizers are also installed.
One Bed Room ApartmentThis space depicts a more westernized middle to upper class environment with a bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. This space allows our learners to develop essential skills required to provide healthcare at home.
CIMEAbad (Village Simulation Space)This village setup is created to achieve experiential learning. It is an open area with walls at two sides and scrubland at the other, with a watercourse overshadowed by trees ideally representing many habitats in the countryside surrounding the big cities such as Karachi. It is spacious enough to accommodate multiple sections of a village, representing the typical living conditions of its residents. To transform this space, a list of essential materials, equipment, and props were identified to complete the picture of a homely setting and to achieve the level of fidelity required to help students suspend their disbelief and to achieve the maximum transfer of learning.
Observation or Control RoomsThe Observation rooms have an advanced sound system through which facilitators can communicate during the sessions. These rooms allow for real-time feedback during simulations to the mannequins and students and, enable facilitator observation that does not obstruct the simulation experience.
Students are briefed in classrooms before running through a simulation. Every technique learned in a simulation is debriefed afterward so students can perfect their practice.
