Emergency Medicine Research Insights Course (EMRIC)

The collaborative Emergency Medicine Research Insights Course, led by the Centre of Excellence for Trauma and Emergencies at Aga Khan University, in partnership with Brown Med School, Brown School of Public Health, and Weil Cornell, is designed to impart essential research concepts with a strong emphasis on practical application in patient care.

The course covers diverse modules including research frameworks, clinical conceptualization, study design, epidemiological methods, biostatistics, and research dissemination. Notably, it features a longitudinal research experience fostering mentor-mentee relationships, focusing on learning, conducting research studies, and mastering quality manuscript writing.​

Aim: To advance research education and its practical application in patient care, particularly in the realms of injury, trauma, and medical emergencies.

Objectives:

  • Equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools required for conducting high-quality emergency medicine research.
  • Foster networking and collaboration among participants, creating opportunities for sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Promote the translation of research findings into practical applications, ultimately improving patient care outcomes.

The inaugural edition of the course spanned from May to December 2023. The course concluded with an in-person Manuscript Writing Workshop on the 21st and 22nd of December 2023. Engaging participants from 10 major healthcare institutes nationwide, including faculty and trainees in Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Trauma, a total of 19 participants successfully earned their certifications.

The manuscript writing workshop focused on developing essential manuscript writing skills, from structuring and literature reviews to ethical considerations and journal submission. Participants learnt to write with clarity, precision, and navigate the submission and revision process.
