African Brain Health Institute (ABHI)

The African Brain Health Institute (ABHI) is a pan-African initiative jointly hosted by Aga Khan University’s Brain and Mind Institute, the American University in Cairo and the University of Ibadan. It brings together partners across the continent to strengthen research and leadership in brain health.

The ABHI Fellowship is a one-year programme for emerging and mid-career professionals working in brain health and related fields. It is cross-disciplinary and grounded in African contexts, creating space for shared learning across regions and areas of expertise.

Fellows engage in mentorship, applied research and community-informed work, with a focus on mental health, neurodegenerative conditions, ageing and the broader factors that shape brain health.
