Countdown to 2015 for Kenya

The CoE WCH was involved in the Countdown to 2015 for Kenya. This was an in-depth Country Case Study to better understand Kenya’s progress on elements of reproductive, maternal, new-born and child health with relevance to Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5 and parts of MDGs 1, 6 and 7.

Mama Na Mtoto: This four year project was funded by the European Union and the Aga Khan Foundation. It played key roles in the areas of family planning, maternal and newborn health, nutrition and health systems strengthening. . Its greatest success was in the implementation of government approved policy of “community strategy” in several government dispensaries in the Coast Province in Kenya.

The CoE WCH has demonstrated capacity to:

  • collect reliable evidence in clinical, community and health systems interventions, including quality and coverage in service delivery
  • develop frameworks for evaluation of programmes, being it clinical, community-based or health systems work
  • conduct implementation studies, case studies, and clinical research in obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatrics, family medicine, nursing and midwifery and population health
  • translate research findings into policy-relevant knowledge and recommendations
