The workshop began with a session on study design, covering various epidemiological approaches including cohort studies, cross-sectional studies, and phases of clinical trials. This was followed by a practical session introducing AI tools such as ChatGPT, Elicit, Consensus, Semantic Scholar, and Litmap. Participants were guided through their use in literature searching, summarization, and scientific writing, with emphasis on improving efficiency and accuracy in early research stages. Subsequent sessions focused on manuscript development, covering the structure of abstracts, methods, and results sections, along with guidance on writing introductions using the funnel approach and framing discussions that acknowledge limitations.
A group-based hands-on activity was conducted in which participants used AI tools to draft introduction and discussion sections of a manuscript, followed by brief presentations. The workshop concluded with an open discussion, participant feedback, and the distribution of CME-accredited certificates by Dr. Heeramani Lohana. Overall, the workshop provided a valuable platform for capacity building in research practices while demonstrating the practical utility of AI in academic settings.
