Population Health and Human Development
Despite impressive health gains in almost all of the EAC countries over the last decade, the challenges facing the public health services is great. The unfinished agenda of the control of communicable diseases is complicated enormously by the emergence of new pandemics, notably HIV/AIDS and non-communicable (NCD) diseases, and health threats arising from global environmental change.
The public health focus of the EAI will address the following policy related issues:
Regional and national health research system that contributes to equitable health development.
Innovation in health and primary health care delivery systems.
Advancing research, education and policy that underpins health and equitable, quality health care.
Encouraging uptake of evidence-based policy and practice in health care system.
Building and nurturing human capacity in public health policy.
