Integration and Regional Food Security

EAI will focus on applied research that will provide knowledge and evidence-based analysis necessary for regional/national policy formulation, practices or action. The work will involve local communities in identifying issues and solutions, and building the tools needed to guide decision-making about management of water, land resources and financial incentives under climate change.

Specific questions to be addressed are:

To what extent does increased intra-regional trade enhance access to food?

Are there populations whose food security status may be adversely affected or improved by integration?

Are there trade policy barriers arising from regional differences in the domestic agricultural policies that might require harmonisation of national policies for a common agricultural market to function and flourish?

Cooperative research programmes with organizations working in East Africa and internationally will expand EAI’s reach.
