Responsibilities

You will be expected to provide expert care for patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders, diagnose, treat and manage blood diseases and cancers, offer both medical and supportive care, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive and patient-centered care. Specific responsibilities include to:

Regular Responsibilities
Patient Care
  • ensure 24/7 continuity of care in Outpatient and inpatient areas while ensuring compliance to IPSG standards and monitoring standards at all levels
  • conduct thorough evaluations of patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and other advanced treatments
  • educate patients and their families about hematologic and oncologic conditions, treatment options and coping strategies
  • monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary, provide supportive care, manage symptoms and side effects related to cancer treatment
  • provide psychosocial support and resources to help patients and families better navigate their diagnosis and treatment
  • maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements as well as those required by accrediting and certifying bodies

Departmental and Administrative Duties
  • adhere to laws and regulations of the FMIC Hospital
  • align with goals and objectives at departmental and organizational levels
  • maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all FMIC rules and regulation
  • take part in teaching and academic activities of medical staff
  • adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental and infection control standards

  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures:
  • perform bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures and other relevant procedures
  • interpret diagnostic tests including blood tests, bone marrow aspirates, biopsies and imaging studies
  • closely collaborate with Surgeons, Pathologists, Radiologists, other specialists and nursing staff for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning, and provision of integrated care
  • participate in tumor boards, case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and treatment strategies
  • coordinate patient referrals to other specialists or facilities as needed

Research and Clinical Trials
  • participate in clinical research and trials to advance the field of hemato-oncology
  • stay informed about the latest advancements and best practices in hemato-oncology
  • educate patients about available clinical trials and facilitate enrollment when appropriate
Community Engagement
  • participate in community outreach programs and educational workshops to promote awareness of hematologic and oncologic conditions
  • collaborate with community organizations to enhance cancer care services and support networks
Periodic Responsibilities
  • conduct CMEs inside and outside of FMIC for sharing knowledge and information, and engage in professional development activities
  • participating in clinical forums and workshops, attendi departmental meetings and contribute to strategic planning
  • develop and maintain clinical pathways and protocols, and participate in goal-setting sessions with the medical teams
  • evaluate and report on patient outcomes and treatment effectiveness, develop and present annual reports on Haemato-oncology services and patient care outcomes
  • participate in annual budget planning and resource allocation for the Haemato-oncology services
  • contribute to achieving Joint Commission International Accreditation mission at FMIC and ensure optimum utilization of chemotherapy administration systems and infusion pumps.

Requirements

You should have:

 Related to Qualification and Experience

  •  MBBS degree from a recognized university and a valid license to practice
  • post-qualification degree in Internal Medicine while completion of additional fellowship training is preferred
  • Diploma in Oncology or recognized certification as Oncologist from MoPH
  • preferably have registration with Afghan Medical Council (AMC) while it will be required prior to joining
  • at least two years of relevant working experience at Consultant or equivalent level

Related to Knowledge and Competencies

  •  excellent patient management skills and patient-oriented approach
  • strong clinical skills in evaluating and treating hematologic and oncologic conditions
  • excellent command in explaining medical conditions to patients in clear and straightforward terms
  • ability to work under difficult working conditions and excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • ability to effectively work with multidisciplinary teams and manage time
  • excellent interpersonal skills along with good communication skills in Dari, Pashto and English languages
  • proficient in the use of common computer applications, particularly MS Office package
  • familiarity with advanced diagnostic equipment and laboratory systems.

  • It will be required to adhere to strict infection control protocols and guidelines for sterilization, hand hygiene etc., which is essential for ensuring patient and staff safety.
  • It is expected to ensure compliance with JCIA and SafeCare Certification standards, participate in audits, quality assessments and maintain high standards of care.
