Introduction

The Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) programme at Aga Khan University aims to provide excellence and innovation in specialised Postgraduate Medical Education to promote evidence-based health care and research abiding by the principles of ethics and professionalism. 

 

The first postgraduate clinical training programmes were launched following the inauguration of Aga Khan University Hospital in 1985. Since critical thinking and analysis are the keystone of scientific thought and the prerequisite for meaningful scholarship and research, it is essential for any educational programme to encompass aspects such as biomedical ethics, teaching skills, research methodology as well as communication skills. Postgraduate medical education at AKU strives to instil these qualities into its graduates through carefully structured programmes, to facilitate a process of broad professional and personal development.

Requirements

INTERNSHIP (House Job)

All those medical graduates who could provide their final result transcript along with PMC/PMDC registration by 18st December 2025 will be eligible to apply.

RESIDENCY (Postgraduate Training)

Applications are invited for Residency programmes in following disciplines:

According to College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) guidelines, candidates applying in General Medicine or Surgery are required to take a final decision about their track before applying to the programme. Change will not be allowed after induction into the chosen specialty.

FELLOWSHIP (Post Residency)

To Apply

Only on-line applications will be accepted (www.aku.edu/apply-online).  A candidate can apply for only one programme at a time be it Internship, Residency or Fellowship.

Admission Test:

The Admission Test for candidates of Internship & Residency Programmes will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 simultaneously in Karachi, Hyderabad and Islamabad. Details will be notified through the admit card.

There is no admission test for entrance into Fellowship training. Selection will be based on academic qualifications, past experience and interviews.

Applicants selected from training programmes of other institutions must submit a “No Objection Certificate” or a copy of the resignation approved by the supervising consultant before joining.

Accommodation:

Limited OFF/ON-campus accommodation for female candidates is available on first-come-first-served basis.  The date and time of the request submitted to PGME at pgme@aku.edu will form the basis of first-come-first-served basis.  

Limited off-campus accommodation for male candidates is available on first-come-first served basis.  The date and time of the request submitted to PGME at pgme@aku.edu will form the basis of first-come-first-served basis.
