Introduction

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is a multi-disciplinary department comprising of faculty from a wide range of basic science teaching and research expertise, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pathology, pharmacology, immunology and neuroscience. The department strives to inspire, innovate and lead in biochemical science teaching and learning and inclusive biomedical community where students, academics, researchers, clinicians, alumni and industry together foster learning.

AKU- Department of Biomedical Sciences is seeking a fulltime Biochemistry Lecturer who will make a significant contribution to the delivery of the undergraduate teaching including the delivery of high-quality teaching in biochemistry across MBChB. The faculty will have an important academic and research leadership role in embedding research expertise into the life of the discipline and Department of Biomedical Sciences and will be required to develop high-quality, productivity-driven networks across AKU and with local, national and international, internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues to create an effective integrated curriculum
  • Teach, supervise and assess undergraduate biochemistry students 
  • Actively contribute to the body of medical education through research, development of proposals for funding and presenting academic papers in conferences/seminars/workshops/symposia
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, representing the Medical College at local, regional and national meetings relevant to medical education and the specialist subject of Biochemistry and develop leadership in this domain

Requirements

  • Should have an honours degree in Biochemistry or related discipline with a Postgraduate degree in Biochemistry
  • Should hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher/Medical Education or equivalent
  • Should have experience in teaching of Biochemistry in an undergraduate medical programme (or similar) using evidence-informed interactive approaches for large and small groups and incorporating information technology
  • Should have a track record of publication in international journals with scholarsip/research in medical education or other discipline relevant to Health Sciences
