Introduction

The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university. 
 
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Aga Khan University is a unique/distinguish establishment which serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital with academic interest. This department is heavily engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and technologist training programs. It provides professional training for higher degree in four major areas of Pathology (Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, and Microbiology). Currently, there are approximately 61 Faculty, including 3 part time, 2 visiting faculty members, and 41 Residents. 

Aga Khan University invites application for the position of Assistant Manager (Research) in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:
  • assisting in developing and implementing annual goals of the assigned area which are aligned to the overall departmental goals
  • grant submission in different formats from various agencies and ensures to get results in higher grant proposal acceptance rates, securing essential funding for research projects
  • efficiently coordinating for Department Research Committee (DeRC) activities and ensures that research initiatives are aligned with department goals, fostering a more productive research environment
  • timely and accurate updating of departmental research information on the website and other communication channels for showcasing the department's accomplishments and capabilities
  • providing enhanced visibility by presenting a detailed overview of the department's research profile at faculty meetings highlights the department's strengths, achievements, and future research plans
  • effectively contributing to department quarterly newsletter preparation
  • determining the eligibility of grant proposals by reviewing them against funding agency requirements and ensuring that valuable time and resources are not wasted on applications that do not meet funding criteria
  • prioritizing research activities within the department based on alignment with strategic priorities and feasibility for resource allocation and maximizing the department's impact in the research field
  • any other duty or responsibility assigned by the reporting person.

Requirements

You should have:
  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • at least two to three years of related work experience or the equivalent combination of education
  • command on MS Office 
  • ability to identify needs & expectations & respond to requests efficiently within established standards
  • ability to work independently, set priorities & complete assignments without constant supervision
  • ability to set goals and work to meet established expectations and adapt working methods to achieve objectives
