Introduction

Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), AKU has recently signed two Memorandums of Understanding with the Government of Sindh with possible extension as a partnership with the Federal Government, to build capacity of ICU’s in public sector hospitals across Pakistan. AKU / AKUH experts will conduct remote training of physicians, nurses and paramedical staff in acute critical care patient management through a set of critical care courses and will also support physicians working in public sector ICU’s through a tele-intensive care model to guide local patient management. 
 
This is a grant-funded contractual position.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:
  • directly assist physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals in providing patient care through tele consultation, with the focus being on performing clinical duties rather than clerical tasks
  • screen calls to determine nature and urgency of inquiry, refer calls as appropriate, and/or schedule appointments with AKU consultants; instruct as needed regarding administrative and/or logistical procedures
  • collect, verify, record, and maintain data on clinical activity and/or research; prepare associated reports as required
  • assist in maintaining cleanliness and serviceability of facilities and/or any equipment
  • facilitate in project communications with health-care staff nationwide, supervise students, volunteers and/or interns; may lead lower-graded staff
  • perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

You should have:
  • an MBBS degree
  • one-year internship / house job will be preferred 
  • at least one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified will be an added advantage
  • knowledge of clinical operations and procedures
  • skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications
  • knowledge of patient care charts and patient history
  • ability to interact and communicate with people over the telephone, often in stressful situations
  • knowledge of clinical facilities and equipment
  • good knowledge of healthcare practices
  • good knowledge of medical lab procedures.
