“Four years ago, my brother was being treated for an illness with potentially severe health consequences. I was a college student then and I remember rushing over to the hospital every day immediately after my classes. It was a stressful time for me and my family.
During his prolonged stay at AKUH, our interaction with nurses grew. They went far beyond their duties of administering medications and offering care to the patient. They would make sure that we, the patient’s family, properly understood his health condition. I saw how effortlessly they comforted my mother and connected with her emotionally. This helped my mother cope during a difficult time.
That’s when I decided that I want to become a nurse.” - Rabab Hussain, BScN ’22
