Pumwani Maternity Hospital has a long history of providing maternity and newborn care to the women of Nairobi and is an important resource for the community. The Aga Khan University (AKU) has advised and assisted several public hospitals, including Pumwani Maternity Hospital, by providing assistance in areas such as education, training and research. This is an important part of AKU’s permanent mission to Kenya and East Africa.
AKU’s Centre of
Excellence for Women and Child Health, along with the AKU
Medical College, have entered discussions to advise and assist Pumwani Maternity Hospital to improve care for women and newborns. This will potentially include specialty training in nursing, obstetrics/gynaecology and paediatrics, where specialist trainees and University faculty collaborate with the Pumwani Maternity Hospital medical and nursing staff.
