nglish language course delivered for the Nutrition and Food Department (NFSD). The 40-hour course was carefully designed by ELE_net in close consultation with the department, to ensure the classes would meet the specific language needs of the NFSD team.
The main objective of the course was to develop the learners’ confidence and fluency in dealing with customers and interacting with colleagues. Each week, the eleven course participants attended four hours of face-to-face sessions which focused on functional language and role plays.
Senior manager, Mr Rahim Yaqub commented on the importance of English for NFSD staff. "The Nutrition and Food Services Department is one of the busiest places at AKUH with almost ten different eateries located within the campus serving about 10,000 consumers, including Faculty, Doctors, Students, Staff members and the general public on a daily basis. Our team members try to interact with each of our customers professionally with no room for mistakes." By the end of the course, the NFSD
staff reported that they felt far more confident both when using English in
their department, and while dealing with customers.
