Postgraduate Medical Education  

Residency Programme

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology residency programme at AKUH, Karachi commenced on November 1, 1987. The training is provided in a structured format under a residency programme approved by the University’s Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Committee and the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.

During their four years of training, residents rotate through different sub-specialties and ambulatory services. The training is approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK. Recently, the programme has also been accredited by ACGME International.

MCPS Obstetrics and Gynaecology 

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology MCPS programme at AKHW–Karimabad, Karachi commenced in January 2004 and was accredited by PGME in January 2025. An important criterion for selecting candidates is the desire to pursue postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the candidate’s willingness to undertake a rigorous two-year programme. The training is approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. The general guidelines for the programme are set by the central PGME Committee.
