Dr. Shelina Bhamani is a mid career academician, researcher, and expert in Early Childhood Development (ECD) with a specialization in educator training and workforce development. She holds a PhD in Education with a focus on ECD program development and has been instrumental in integrating early childhood education and parenting support into healthcare and educational settings.
Currently serving as an Assistant Professor and Program Director for Outreach Education in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Aga Khan University (AKU), Dr. Bhamani has played a pivotal role in developing training programs for educators, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. She pioneered the first-ever ECD Parenting Education Program in healthcare settings in Pakistan, which has benefited over 15,000 caregivers. Her work focuses on strengthening teacher education, designing faculty development frameworks, and enhancing professional capacity in ECD. In the past, she has been associated with several ECD and education related projects with USAID, Aga Khan Foundation, Aga Khan Education Service, Aman Foundation, and leading national universities like IoBM, SZABIST, and Greenwich.
Recognized as a leading trainer in her field, Dr. Bhamani has designed and conducted numerous training programs for early childhood educators, equipping them with evidence-based teaching strategies and professional development tools. She has worked extensively with schools, universities, and training institutes, contributing to curriculum restructuring and policy development for ECD education.
Her research expertise centers on caregiver and educator capacity-building, with a strong emphasis on systems strengthening and sustainable ECD models. She has authored peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and policy briefs on early learning, teacher training, and the role of education in improving child development outcomes. She has also contributed to policy discussions and curriculum design to enhance the professional standards of ECD educators. Dr. Bhamani is widely recognized for her expertise in training educators, leading structured professional development programs, and advancing ECD initiatives in Pakistan and beyond. Dr Bhamani has taught at B.Ed, MPhil and PhD levels and have supervised more than 60 students from undergraduate to post graduate to executive professionals across globe.
