Center for Clinical Best Practices

Center for Clinical Best Practices (CCBP)
Established: June 2020

The Center for Clinical Best Practices (CCBP), established in June 2020 at Aga Khan University, is at the forefront of adapting evidence-based clinical guidelines for Pakistan and other low and middle-income countries. AKU became the first officially recognized GRADE Center in South Asia, underscoring its leadership in evidence-based healthcare. By aligning global best practices with local healthcare realities, CCBP enhances patient care quality and consistency. Through its flagship AKU Manual of Clinical Practice Guidelines, the Center publishes practical, evidence-backed guidance for clinicians. In collaboration with the U.S. GRADE Network, CCBP also advances research methodology and fosters regional partnerships to build expertise in guideline development.

The AKU Manual of Clinical Practice Guidelines can be accessed through our mobile application on both Android and iOS platforms, as well as on the web. Printed copies are also available for purchase at Paramount.

About Us

Who We Are

The Center for Clinical Best Practices (CCBP), established under the Deans office and CITRIC center at Aga Khan University, is a specialized platform dedicated to advancing healthcare quality in Pakistan and other low and middle-income countries. Our mission is to bridge the gap between global clinical evidence and the unique needs of local health systems. We bring together clinicians and physicians to shape clinical practices that are both scientifically sound and contextually appropriate.

What We Do

At CCBP, we adapt international best practices into practical, usable guidelines for local healthcare providers. Our work centers on the development of high-quality, evidence based clinical guidance that supports decision making at the bedside.

Key focus areas include:

  • Producing context-adapted clinical guidelines featured in the AKU Manual of Clinical Practice Guidelines.
  • Strengthening the use of evidence in clinical care through rigorous methods aligned with the GRADE approach.
  • Promoting collaborative learning and capacity building by partnering with institutions regionally and globally.

Our aim is not only to improve patient care but also to create a sustainable framework for continuous improvement in clinical practice.

When and How We Started

The Center was launched in June 2020 as a timely response to the growing need for structured, reliable, and locally adapted clinical guidelines. Recognizing the limitations of applying international standards without contextual relevance, the team at Aga Khan University initiated CCBP to lead this transformation. Since its inception, the Center developed key strategic collaborations, and positioned itself as a national leader in evidence based clinical care.
