Clinical Assistant Professor & Section Head, Pulmonology
Dr Jumaa Bwika is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Section Head, Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. He earned his medical degree at University of Nairobi in 1998, and his MRCP from the Royal College of Physician, London in 2009. He later pursued specialty training in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and in Respiratory medicine achieving specialist certification in Respiratory medicine from the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians, and the British Thoracic Society in 2013. He completed his consultant training in 2014, attaining his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from the General Medical Council, with dual accreditation in the Respiratory and the GIM specialist registers, and Specialist Collegiate Membership in Respiratory Medicine.
Dr Bwika is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Birmingham, and is currently working on a thesis in New Service Development. Prior to moving to Kenya, Dr Bwika served as a locum Consultant in Respiratory and Acute medicine at the University Hospital of North Midlands, Stoke-on Trent for three years. Dr Bwika has multiple peer-reviewed publications and has presented at various conferences and meetings.
His skills include flexible bronchoscopy, non-invasive ventilation, thoracic ultrasonography for pleural procedures, medical thoracoscopy, cardio-pulmonary exercise testing and endobronchial ultrasound. His interests include clinical management pathways, new service design, service delivery and service recovery. He is an active member of the British Thoracic Society and the European Respiratory Society.
