​Hiring of Education Fellows and Improving Quality of Pedagogy in Gilgit-Baltistan​

The project is transforming education in Gilgit-Baltistan by equipping teachers with innovative skills to enhance student learning.

Goals

  • Hire, develop, deploy, supervise and support 1200 high quality Education Fellows in govt schools identified by the Department of Education, Gilgit-Baltistan.

  • Provide Education Fellows with PD as per National Curriculum SLOs, specifically equipping them to use activity-based, participatory and game-based learning in schools.

1200 Education Fellows for School Education, College Education, Special Education and Technical Education, from 10 Districts of Gilgit-Baltistan (Astore, Diamer, Ghizer, Gilgit, Hunza, Nager, Skardu, Shigar, Kharmang, Ghanche)

Project Progress to Date

1. Recruitment and Deployment of Education Fellows

  • Recruitment Process:

    • Round 1: A total of 17,332 applications were received through the online portal.

    • Round 2: As of November 29, 2024, an additional 3,160 applications were received.

  • Test-cum-Interview Panels:

    • 11 panels comprising 22 individuals were established.

    • Panelists underwent orientation, digital marking training, and practice sessions to ensure consistency and shared understanding of the process.

  • Selection Process:

    • The evaluation included interviews, a content test, and a teaching demonstration to assess candidates comprehensively.

2. Professional Development of Education Fellows

  • Training of Master Trainers (MTs):

    • Conducted a specialized orientation on gamification in late September 2024. Read more​

  • Fellow Training Sessions:

    • Over 340 School Fellows trained from October 14 to December 16, 2024, during an 18-day programme. The training covered Mathematics, Science, English, General Pedagogy, and included MT rotations.​​ Training for Gilgit clusters​​​​ | More on Content Workshops 

    • Additional 6-day training was provided to 300+ Fellows from colleges, special education, and technical education at AKU-IED's Professional Development Centre, North.

  • Winter Camps Initiative:

    • Public middle and high schools are operating for 3–4 hours daily, focusing primarily on science subjects for grades 8–10 to enhance learning o​​utcomes and maintain academic engagement during the break.
