Dr Irfan holds a PhD in Bioinformatics and specializes in ​Genomics. During his doctoral studies, he developed a Zebrafish model with a gli3 knockout to investigate brain deformities associated with human GLI3 mutations. ​​His research interests involve discerning innovative methods in molecular and genetic engineering to regenerative medicine, treating genetic diseases, and elucidating fundamental biological processes. At AKU-CRM he is currently leveraging his efforts to develop advanced gene editing therapies for Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease.  Prior to joining CRM, he served as  visiting faculty member at the National Centre for Genomics and Bioinformatics (BIGD) in Beijing, China.
