    Message from the Director

"The field of regenerative medicine and stem cell research is moving forward at an exceptional pace, touching nearly every area of modern medicine. Many of the most persistent and disabling diseases, such as cancer, neurological and blood disorders, cardiovascular conditions, and vision loss, still lack effective treatments. Stem cell-based strategies offer a new approach by targeting several biological processes at once and helping restore normal function.

At the Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research, Aga Khan University (AKU-CRM), we are building a translational platform that connects laboratory discoveries with patient care. Our research is grounded in clinical relevance, and we are committed to ensuring that what we do in the lab can make a real difference at the bedside. This is especially important in countries like Pakistan, where access to advanced therapies is often limited.

Our work is organized around four main thematic areas: vision sciences, hematological sciences, neural sciences, and oncological sciences, with a focus on tumor stem cells. In addition, we are establishing programs in cardiovascular regenerative science and in regenerative strategies for cartilage and dental tissue repair. These themes reflect both the depth of the science and the breadth of clinical need.

AKU is an international institution of distinction, primarily serving the developing world in innovative and enduring ways. The Centre is shaped by the vision of the University's founding Chancellor, His Highness the Aga Khan IV, who set out to improve healthcare and education in resource-limited settings. At CRM, we remain closely aligned with that vision. We are engaging faculty from across disciplines, encouraging open collaboration, and making research more relevant by staying connected to clinical practice.

As the new director, I believe this Centre has the potential to lead in both scientific innovation and impact. We welcome all who share our commitment to improving lives through science, medicine, and partnership."
