​Medical First Responder Course

​​​​​​As part of our commitment to strengthening community-based emergency response in Pakistan, CETE offers the Medical First  Responder (MFR) Course, designed to equip non-medical personnel with essential knowledge and practical skills to effectively respond to medical emergencies and crises. 

To date, three cohorts of the course have been conducted, training over 80 participants from the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) Pakistan. The first two cohorts were held in Gilgit (December 2022 and June 2025), followed by the most recent one in Karachi (July 2025).​ ​

Day One – Resuscitation Day

Participants are introduced to resuscitation principles, including Hands-Only CPR and Stop the Bleed. The day also covers Emergency Medical Services (EMS), stress management, ethical responsibilities, infectious disease precautions, and concludes with practical exercises in patient assessment, choking interventions, and preparing a basic first aid kit. 

Day Two – Trauma Day

This day addresses trauma care, including trauma assessment, hemorrhage control, wound management, and injuries to the head, spine, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and limbs. Participants also assemble and familiarize themselves with a comprehensive MFR kit.

Day Three – Medical Emergencies Day

Focused on common medical emergencies, this day covers oxygen therapy, respiratory emergencies (asthma, COPD, toxic inhalation), non-traumatic shock, cardiovascular emergencies (MI, angina, CCF, hypertension), cerebrovascular events, allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, abdominal emergencies, and pain management. Participants also prepare an emergency car kit. 

Day Four – Disaster Day

Participants build knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness, including cold and heat illnesses, burns, poisoning, foreign body management, drowning, mass casualty incident planning, emergency rescue and carries, and assembling a 72-hour survival kit. 

Day Five – Care for Special Circumstances

The final day emphasizes care in special situations such as childbirth and newborn care. The course concludes with participant feedback, certificate distribution, and reflection on the role of MFRs in strengthening emergency preparedness in their communities.
