Butool Fatima​
Research Specialist

At BMI, Dr Butool Fatima supports the What Works 2 project, focusing on adolescents in reducing violence against women and girls. Dr Butool’s role primarily involves epidemiological research. She also oversees field activities, engages with the stakeholders, applies her quantitative expertise in data analysis and contributes to manuscript writing.  

Dr Butool's journey in academia and research is rooted in a strong foundation in medicine and public health. She holds an MBBS degree and a Master's in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Aga Khan University (AKU), equipping her with a deep understanding of clinical practice, research methodologies and statistical analysis. 

Dr Butool began her academic career as a Lecturer in Medical Sciences, where she taught Pathology to MBBS students, contributing to the training of future healthcare professionals.  She expanded her focus to public health research, working at the Community Health Sciences Department (AKU) on adolescent health projects.  Dr Butool specializes in quantitative research and data analysis and her previous research projects focused on salivary biomarkers analysis for pre-malignant lesion detection and digital and behavioral health interventions to reduce mental health disorders and promote mental well-being among adolescents. 

Dr Butool is committed to improving adolescent health through research, education, and evidence-based interventions. Her research focus is adolescent health, and it began with her MSc thesis project, where she delivered climate change educational intervention to adolescents, highlighting the importance of youth awareness in shaping long-term public health outcomes. Building on this foundation, she continues to engage in research addressing adolescent health challenges, with a particular emphasis on clinical and behavioral interventions, health education, and violence prevention.

Beyond her professional commitments, Dr Butool is passionate about mentoring young researchers and medical students, bridging the gap between academic learning and practical research. She also volunteers as a mentor for The Citizen Foundation Rahbar Programme, guiding adolescents toward personal and academic growth.​​​​​
