Introduction

The Library at Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) provides resources to support the Institute's academic and research work. Established mainly to serve the faculty and students of the Institute, library services are also selectively open to students, academicians and researchers of other educational institutions.

The Library provides a range of resources in print and electronic mediums to support teaching, learning and research activities of AKU-IED. Over 35,000 books, 250,000 eBooks and almost 5000 e-journals from all over the world are available for academic or research pursuits.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Librarian IED, the incumbent will be responsible for academic as well as administrative tasks.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • assisting users in using the available collection and services 
  • assisting in conducting information literacy sessions and library skills development programs for the users 
  • assisting in selecting, purchasing, organizing and maintaining the library’s electronic resources including e-books 
  • establishing and implementing policies and procedures for the digitization of library resources 
  • assisting in managing print and electronic journals collections and copyrighting/licensing and access
  • developing, maintaining and updating the library portal 
  • coordinating with AKU libraries to provide inter-library loans 
  • managing theses collection and assisting in developing the AKU-IED’s institutional repository 
  • cataloguing, classification and entering the data of subscribed/purchased material in integrated library system, Symphony.

Requirements

You should have:

  • Masters in Library and Information Sciences from a HEC recognized university 
  • 3-4 years’ experience in managing modern libraries, preferably academic libraries 
  • good command over Microsoft Office, Front Page, Dreamweaver etc. 
  • familiarity with research repositories 
  • knowledge of Integrated Library Systems 
  • sound knowledge of MARC 21, AACR2, LCCS, and RDA 
  • excellent communications skills both verbal and written 
  • good organization and time management skills 
  • ability to handle shift work and perform extra duties, as and when required.
