Introduction

More than half of the total burdens of diseases in low and middle income countries are caused by health emergencies. Trauma is one of the leading causes of disability-adjusted life years in the world, affecting especially young bread earners of low-income families. Similarly, epidemics, wars and other disasters disproportionately impacts the poor and most vulnerable in the world. 

The primary goal of the Centre of Excellence for Trauma and Emergencies (CoE-TE) is to improve health outcomes of individuals and populations affected by trauma and emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, complex humanitarian crises, disasters due to climate change and large-scale epidemics. The CoE-TE will work with AKDN partners (including the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat), global academic and response institutions, governments, private sector and funding agencies to strengthen day-to-day trauma and emergency systems as well as disaster preparedness and response in low and lower middle income countries, especially those where AKU and AKDN is active.

The Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Senior Instructor/Assistant Professor (Research) in the Centre of Excellence for Trauma and Emergencies.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:   
  • Conduct high quality, impactful, externally funded research, and innovation in the field of disasters, trauma & emergencies 
  • Facilitate achieving in CETE research strategy objective 
  • Facilitate in leveraging AKDN to access research funding and implement research projects
  • Facilitate in developing CETE research capacity area through taking participation in managing capacity building & research program including fellowship programs
  • Facilitate and when required teach in research and non-research workshop and seminars
  • Develop and strengthen CETE research group
  • Organize the CETE research by leading weekly CETE research meeting internally, biweekly CETE research leadership meeting
  • Support in planning and developing of Monitoring and Evaluation plan for CETE researches.

Requirements

You should have:: 
  • a PhD/FCPS trained in Emergency Medicine with Master’s in Epidemiology, Statistics, mathematics, bio-informatics or any other related field from an HEC recognized or reputable foreign institution 
  • relevant academic, industry work experience.
  • strong mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills
  • pleasant personality with good communication skills, must be computer literate with familiarity with MS office, EndNote and statistical software like SPSS, Stata, SAS, etc.
  • bility to communicate clearly and efficiently
  • ability to lead and be a great team member.
