Introduction

The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.

The Institute for Educational Development (IED), Pakistan of the Aga Khan University (AKU) is delighted to seek applications for a dynamic internally driven visiting faculty member to teach on our Test Validity and Instruction course, within the Master of Education (MEd)’s strand of Assessment, Measurement and Evaluation for one semester and a Certificate in Education Programme on Assessment.

The Institute conducts a broad array of academic programmes for in-service teachers, teacher educators and education managers/leaders from both the public and private sectors. These programmes include PhD in Education, MPhil in Education and Master of Education as well as Advanced Diplomas, Certificate Programmes, and Continuing Professional Education courses for teachers, teacher educators, principals, and education managers and leaders.

Responsibilities

a) This course ‘Test Validity and Construction’, introduces large-scale testing to the course participants so they can implement that in educational settings. 

You will be expected to enable course participants to:

  • argue for test validity and test fairness in relation to practices of large-scale testing in education
  • relate the purpose of test with its design and content
  • construct a test blueprint; and
  • write, review, mark, and analyze test items and test forms.
You will be responsible for:

  • preparing the course handbook which will include course themes, reading list, assessment tasks and content for the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). 
  • teaching the course participants in HyFlex mode (both F2F and online); monitor their progress; mark assignments; share feedback; maintain attendance records; prepare results for submissions to the graduate programme office and prepare a brief reflective report on your experience of teaching the course
b) design and offer a Certificate in Education Programme on Assessment.

Requirements

You should have:

  • a PhD degree in the relevant field (preferably Educational Assessment, Measurement and Evaluation), with 5–7 years of relevant academic work experience. In exceptional circumstances, a candidate with a master’s degree with a considerable teaching & research experience in the relevant area can be considered for the position.
  • track record of leading research projects, securing competitive grants, publications in  relevant peer reviewed journals and teaching at the post-graduate level in the field of education or social sciences.
  • demonstrated expertise in mixed-method research.
