As part of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Aga Khan University, the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health, East Africa (CoE WCH, EA) targets population and public health, health systems strengthening, quality of clinical care, education and research in reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health( RMNCAH). The team of researchers includes experts in health systems research, social science, epidemiology, obstetrics - gynaecology, paediatrics, nursing and midwifery, family medicine, biostatistics and monitoring and evaluation. 

Responsibilities

This position is required to contribute to recruitment of participants, data collection and follow-up for the “Pregnancy Care Integrating Translational Science Everywhere (PRECISE)” study and related studies. The PRECISE studies involve long term follow-up of pregnant women from early pregnancy up to 3 years post-delivery. Study activities take place in health facilities and community settings in Kilifi county.
 
The Enumerator will contribute to community engagement, participant recruitment tracing and follow-up, data collection for research studies of the PRECISE network at the Kenya site. 

This position is based at field sites in Kilifi county (Mariakani and Rabai subcounty hospitals and Kaloleni and Rabai subcounties of Kilifi county).

Responsibilities
Specifically, the enumerator will:
  • Participate in recruitment, data collection, sample handling and follow-up of research participants
  • Participate in tracing and retention, including home visits
  • Prepare for and facilitate community engagement meetings
  • Communicate to participants, families and community members about the study
  • Support the community liaison officer in planning for study activities 
  • Manage study supplies and equipment used for research activities 
  • Conduct all study activities in adherence to provided guidelines and protocols and with utmost confidentiality and ethical practice

Requirements

  • Must possess Form 4 level education, Minimum KCSE C- or equivalent.
  • Basic computer literacy is a must
  • A Certificate or Diploma level training in the areas of Community Health or Communication and related fields will be an added advantage
  • Experience in data collection for research studies or other programs and use of mobile data collection tools
  • Experience in community-based research activities and/or working at a health facility
  • Experience in collecting or handling biological samples will be an added advantage
  • Fluency in English, Swahili and Mijikenda. 
  • This role is based primarily at the community but may include roles in the health facilities. The role includes significant local travel within the study area and may include work on weekends and public holidays.
