Introduction

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers wide range of services and a breadth of expertise in chemical pathology, haematology and transfusion medicine, histopathology, microbiology, and molecular pathology. It serves students, patients, and society through its exceptional academic, research and clinical programmes. With a team of resourceful faculty and technologists, the department provides a vast array of state-of-the-art routine and specialized services. AKU Hospital’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the needs of country via specimen collection units and stat labs located across Pakistan. 

Responsibilities

The Chair will provide dynamic academic leadership to the department and will have an overall responsibility for the fulfilment of its research, academic and service mandate, consistent with the mission and vision of AKU and AKUH. The Chair will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic vision for the department, fostering a strong research culture, nurturing learning, and training across programmatic levels, supporting, and developing faculty, and partnering with stakeholders to meet the departmental overall mandate.

Requirements

  • Eligible applicants must have MBBS/MD with postgraduate certification (FCPS, FRCPath, Diplomate of American Board of Pathology or equivalent qualification). 
  • Candidates with an academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor who are seasoned administrators and have a well-established track record of leadership are encouraged to apply. 
  • Applicants with high productivity and experience in research funding and publications, teaching, training and clinical service delivery, evidence of engaging teams and balancing multiple organizational priorities will be considered.
