Introduction

The Institute for Human Development is dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge with direct relevance for policies, programs, and practices that enhance life experiences at all stages of human development.  In its foundational years, the Institute seeks particularly to become a major instrumental agent, locally as well as globally, for advancing knowledge about the earliest years of children’s development and harnessing such knowledge for the purposes of shaping policies and interventions that ensure a strong start in life for all children wherever they may live.

Reporting to the Director IHD, the Programme Manager will support in managing the Institute and elaborating a strategic framework; develop research and capacity-building programmes agendas; and liaise with government and non-government partners to establish and nurture IHD partnership base.  In addition, the incumbent will coordinate and provide guidance, assistance, and track the progress of all IHD administrative and research development work.

The successful candidate will be based in Nairobi Kenya.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing and carrying out the strategic development process of the Institute and the development of research and capacity-building programmes
  • Support in resource mobilization, grant applications, (in coordination with AKU/AKDN resource mobilization units)
  • Engage in establishing and nurturing collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Provide oversight and coordination of all on-going and additional new projects in consultation with IHD Director and in collaboration with Research Officers/Project leads Ensure up to date documentation of all project documents
  • Support project leads in project implementation within budget and stipulated timelines, stakeholder and community engagement activities, participatory planning, feedback and dissemination of research work
  • Promote an efficient administrative system for the department

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Project Planning and Management or similar qualification
  • At least 5 years working experience in programme management
  • Preferred experiences in higher education and research execution in the areas of early human development, maternal, newborn and child health and adolescents
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills and meticulous approach to documentation
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and coordinating stakeholders, as well as working with multiple partners regionally and internationally
  • Strong leadership and team building skills, high degree of intercultural sensitivity, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, and outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in budget and work plan management skills
  • Ability to make decisions, participate in directorship assistive roles and work independently with no supervision
