Center for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME)
This Centre has three locations: the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME) in Karachi is the trailblazer in South Asia, accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) meeting international standards for simulation based education, innovation, and pedagogical research. CIME in AKU Nairobi, soon to be followed by AKU Kampala,  are similarly conceived as  state-of -the art developments. Having a prime location in the new Academic Centre, CIME Nairobi aspires to reach international standards and the level of excellence expected in AKU . The Centre is committed to working with partners in healthcare, education and clinical practice to enrich educational  experiences and improve healthcare outcomes and patient safety.

Reporting to the Director, the incumbent will have specific responsibilities for operating simulators, audio-visual and IT equipment, working alongside clinicians, troubleshooting, routine maintenance and reporting technical faults to ensure smooth functioning of the system and avoiding any technical malfunctions.

The incumbent will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Responsibilities

  • Utilise simulation, AV and IT technologies deployed within CIME
  • Work with support from the technical team in Karachi to  undertake specific responsibilities for operating simulators, audio-visual and IT equipment, working alongside clinicians, troubleshooting, routine maintenance and reporting technical faults
  • Adhere to guidelines, policies and protocols devised by CIME management in relation to equipment and technology utilization and management
  • Works effectively within project teams developing innovations, liaising with internal and external agencies
  • Utilize technological developments and innovations
  • Disseminate knowledge locally to colleagues, faculty, staff and visitors.
  • Undertake programmes of preventative maintenance of technical equipment including IT, and simulators
  • Identify redundant or obsolete equipment/technologies/simulators
  • Keep abreast of new products and developments in simulation.
  • Undertake programmes of CPD as required to maintain currency of skills and knowledge
  • Undertake assignments in relation to clinical simulation in campuses across AKU.
  • Contribute to research activity with in CIME to improve the technical functions of the Centre.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical/ Science related field from a reputable learning institution
  • Minimum experience of 2 years in a professional role in a similar capacity preferred
  • Must be able to trouble shoot IT systems at module level.
  • Must also have knowledge of the operating characteristics of  Desktop operating systems, MAC, Linux and troubleshooting skills related to it.
  • Must have proficient knowledge of networking, hardware & software.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have knowledge of operating systems and electromechanical function of simulators
  • Excellent self-awareness of competence and one’s own limits
  • Competence at Analyst level
