Introduction

Aga Khan University's (AKU) Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is a preeminent public health institution in the country. The vision of the Chancellor set the direction for the University to take a lead in community development and the creation of an innovative curriculum that emphasizes a balance between patient care and population health. Over the past several decades, CHS has played a major role in leading the development of national level primary health care, public health practice, health systems through evidence-based approach. CHS has established successful models in urban and rural settings in Pakistan emphasizing empowerment - building on the strengths of communities. As part of an international university, CHS collaborates in a global network of outstanding research and teaching institutions including AKU affiliates in East Africa and Central Asia.

CHS has five major sections – Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management, Population & Reproductive Health, Environmental-Occupational Health & Injuries, and Non Communicable Diseases & Mental Health. 

Responsibilities

Being a member of the Environmental, Occupational Health & Injuries (EOHI) Section, you will be responsible for:
  • assisting in developing and conducting educational and training programmes for undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate students at AKU in the area of EOHI
  • developing and offering customised educational programmes in the area of EOHI
  • facilitating research programmes under supervision
  • assisting in acquiring new grants and proposals for EOHI Research and work towards ongoing research activities to achieve its milestones
  • assisting as a resource for senior faculty within and outside the Section; students and trainees in the fields of Environmental and Occupational Health
  • exploring and mobilising national and international funding resources for the projects in the area of Environmental and Occupational Health under guidance. 

Requirements

You should have:
  • MBBS with FCPS or Master’s degree in a Public Health discipline (or equivalent) with a preferable focus in Environmental and Occupational Health Studies 
  • a minimum of two years’ experience of teaching in a reputable institution with demonstrated scholarship through research and publication 
  • ability to provide conceptual and technical input to a diverse range of research studies in the department and the institution
  • track record of having obtained research grants or publications
  • good teaching skills and knowledge of new teaching methodologies and practices
  • good academic writing skills
  • proficiency in the use of related computer software packages
  • ability to build and promote partnerships across the organisation and beyond
  • good interpersonal skills and commitment to learning, growth, and self-development.
