Introduction

The Aga Khan University’s Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations in London seeks to appoint a Persian Language Instructor for the period January to May 2021. 

Responsibilities

The incumbent will teach one course of beginner-level Persian. The course will run for 16 weeks and will include 5 contact hours with students each week. The successful candidate will be expected to set and mark all assessments and attend teaching committee meetings as necessary.

The Institute’s MA in Muslim Cultures aims to contribute to the formation of scholars, intellectuals and professionals capable of engaging with contemporary challenges, particularly those faced within contemporary Muslim societies, by drawing upon ethical ideals, critical thinking and modern academic tools. The MA Programme offers a distinctive way of understanding the cultures of Muslims as they have evolved over time.

Requirements

Requirements & Qualifications

The incumbent should have a postgraduate degree in Persian with prior experience in teaching Persian language to non-native speakers at the post-graduate level, prefably supported by a recognised language teaching qualification.

Experience of teaching and supervising a culturally diverse group of students and faculty

Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and advising in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity, and dedication to quality/development of student learning 

Ability to adopt/develop innovative methods of language teaching

Excellent command of English with proven excellent communication skills
