Introduction

Chartered in 1983, Aga Khan University (AKU) is a private, autonomous and self-governing international university, with 13 teaching sites in 6 countries over three continents (www.aku.edu). The Institute for Human Development is dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge with direct relevance for policies, programs, and practices that enhance life experiences at all stages of human development.  In its foundational years, the Institute seeks particularly to become a major instrumental agent, locally as well as globally, for advancing knowledge about the earliest years of children’s development and harnessing such knowledge for the purposes of shaping policies and interventions that ensure a strong start in life for all children wherever they may live.

Applications are, invited from appropriately qualified candidates for the above 3 month fixed term position. The position holder will report to the Project Manager, Institute for Human Development. Their purpose will be to coordinate community engagement and mobilization activities for Child Development in Marginalized Communities and other Research projects.

Responsibilities

•    Assist in initiating and nurturing relationships with local leaders and community within the study site.
•    Support the project team with documentation of engagement activities during implementation.
•    Co-ordinate field work and community engagement processes.
•    Support project team with data collection and documentation of process evaluation activities involving intervention delivery agents.
•    Organize for community mobilization and sensitization in liaison with field team and other partners.
•    Develop and maintain a database with key contacts of partners in the study site.

Requirements

•    A bachelor’s degree in ECD, Social Work, Development studies or related field.
•    2 years working experience in community engangement particularly in informal settlement.
•    Demonstrated excellent report writing and communication skills.
•    Demonstrated familiarity in County Government partnership processes.
•    Demonstrated familiarity in research ethics and obtaining informed consent.
•    Demonstrated experience in supporting field logistics.
•    Ability to work with minimal supervision.
•    Proficiency in MS office.
