Introduction

Aga Khan University's (AKU) Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is a preeminent public health institution in the country. The vision of the Chancellor has set the direction for the University to take a lead in community development and the creation of an innovative curriculum that focuses on creating a balance between patient care and population health. CHS has taken a major role in pursuing the vision over the past several decades by leading the development of a national-level primary health care system, public health practice, and health systems strengthening through evidence-based approaches. CHS has established successful models in urban and rural settings in Pakistan emphasising empowerment - building on the strengths of communities. Faculty in CHS collaborate in research with faculty from other departments, other campuses of the University, AKDN sister organisations, as well as other local and foreign researchers. 

CHS has five major Sections - Epidemiology & biostatistics, Health policy & management, Population & reproductive health, Environmental health, and Non-communicable diseases & mental health.

Responsibilities

Being a member of the Population and Reproductive Health section, you will be responsible for:
  • conducting and developing educational/training programmes for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students at AKU in the area of Reproductive Health
  • developing and offering tailored educational programs in the area of Reproductive Health, as part of the continuing education programme
  • establishing research programmes, acquiring new grants and proposals for Reproductive Health Research and working towards ongoing research activities, to achieve its milestones
  • exploring and mobilising national and international funding resources for Reproductive health related research projects and trainings
  • advocating the reproductive and child health cause and gender balance among the key decision makers of the country
  • serving as a liaison with provincial and district governments to translate research knowledge into practice for improvement of maternal, new-born, and child health and for reduction of intrapartum stillbirth.

Requirements

You should have:
  • a Ph.D. degree in Public Health with a focus in Population Studies/Reproductive Health or equivalent from a well-reputed and HEC recognized University/Institution
  • at least five years’ teaching/research experience in an HEC recognised University or a post-graduate Institution with demonstrated professional accomplishment and evidence of publications and successful performance in grant writing, and significant impact of research conducted 
  • capability for curriculum planning and organising skills for research administration
  • strong teaching skills and knowledge of new teaching methodologies and practices 
  • ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written English and Urdu (applicable to the nationals only), command over other local/regional languages would be an advantage
  • good academic writing skills  
  • sound leadership skills and team building capacity
  • proficiency in the use of related computer software packages
  • excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to learning, growth, and self-development.
