Over 60,000 infants in Pakistan are born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) each year and over 60 per cent are unable to survive beyond their first few years due to inadequate diagnostic and treatment facilities. With access to quality healthcare, 85 per cent of these children can lead fit, active lives.
We at The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) believe that all children deserve an equal chance at a healthy life. Outfitted with state-of-the-art technology and home to experts in pediatric healthcare, AKUH is uniquely positioned to heal children with even the most complex heart conditions.
To raise funds and awareness for CHD, with the unwavering generosity of our donors, we launched our Mending Kids’ Hearts campaign in 2015. Over the years, this campaign has made a remarkable difference. In 2021 alone we raised Rs 107 million through which 188 children, who would otherwise be unable to afford treatment, received life-changing CHD surgeries and procedures at AKUH.
Taking the tradition forward, on November 6, 2022 AKU hosted a golf tournament to expand its impact and raise funds for CHD. The tournament, held at Karachi Golf Club, gave Friends of AKU the opportunity to direct their capital towards lifesaving treatment of deserving children. The event lasted from morning till noon and culminated at an award distribution ceremony for the winners.
Our teams at AKU passionately advocate for raising funds for treatment of the underprivileged. Throughout the year, we offer opportunities for existing and new donors to get involved and help take our mission forward. Whether through sports, music or theatre, we give our partners meaningful and fulfilling ways to support us and help lessen the disparities present in healthcare.
