Aga Khan University’s commitment to empowering staff and creating opportunities for professional growth has been recognised in the 2019 Best Place to Work awards organised by Engage Consulting.
The University won the top prize in the Best in Health Care Services category and is among 27 institutions to receive awards for being leaders in their respective industries.
The annual award honours organisations achieving the highest scores in a randomly assigned, anonymous staff survey that captures employee engagement on themes such as a sense of belonging, alignment with organisational values, commitment and growth opportunities.
Over 80 per cent of AKU employees were committed to the University’s mission and expressed confidence about their career prospects, a figure that exceeds the global engagement benchmark of 79 per cent.
“Our initiatives to promote career growth and innovation at the workplace align with one of our core values, Empowerment and Accountability,” said Carol Ariano, vice president of human resources at AKU. “This award reflects and reinforces our desire to continue to be the employer of choice wherever we work.”
AKU has previously won awards for Excellence in Women Empowerment and HR Excellence from the Employers’ Federation of Pakistan in 2018 and 2019.
For the last two years, the University has also picked up Best Practice awards in the categories of Leadership & Accountability; Diversity & Inclusion Vision, Strategy, and Business Case as well as the Progressive Level Award for Recruitment, Retention, Development and Advancement from HR Metrics.
