The Scale Forum for Youth Entrepreneurship Comes to Tanzania
Sep 28, 2017
Share
On September 28th in Dar es Salaam the Civil Society Initiative, a joint programme of the Aga Khan University (AKU) and the Aga Khan Foundation in East Africa (AKFEA), held the second in its series of Scale forums across East Africa. Expanding upon the findings of the
East Africa Institute’s Youth Survey
, the programme incorporated a series of multi-stakeholder sessions to bring together young entrepreneurs for a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of starting and scali
ng businesses, in addition to generating opportunities to network with government, private sector, donor and non-governmental organizations.
The Scale Tanzania forum highlighted the stories of nine young entrepreneurs through presentations, panel sessions and a marketplace exhibition. In total, 117 delegates attended the forum and over 200 people participated in the conversation through social media using
#ScaleTalksTZ
. A special two-hour session on the Foundations of Leadership was also held for 40 young entrepreneurs, facilitated in partnership with the USAID funded
Young African Leaders Initiative
. Scale inspired a number of dynamic discussions about the barriers and possibilities for entrepreneurs in Tanzania, with a focus on how to access finance and manage the scalability of youth enterprises.
This event would not have been possible without the support of our many generous sponsors who provided their resources to help the Scale forum empower young entrepreneurs in Tanzania.
Having successfully launched Scale in Uganda and Tanzania, the Civil Society Initiative is looking forward to the upcoming Scale Kenya and Rwanda forums in early 2018, as well as the Regional Summit scheduled for summer 2018.
