The Medical College, Aga Khan University is celebrating a proud milestone as Dr Duriya Rehmani, Senior Instructor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, has been awarded the prestigious MRCOG Gold Medal by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). The award recognizes her top performance in the MRCOG Part 3 exam, making her the first Pakistani to receive this honour. She will officially be presented with the medal at the RCOG awards ceremony in 2026.
For Dr Duriya, the recognition is a testament not just to her individual dedication but also to the culture of mentorship and excellence at AKU. “This gold medal is not just a personal milestone, but a reflection of the dedication, mentorship, and the excellence AKU inspires,” she said. “It is a reminder that when passion meets purpose, boundaries are broken and new paths are created for others to follow.”
She joined the Medical College in 2022 as a Senior Instructor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She earned her MBBS from Dow University of Health Sciences in 2010 and went on to complete her FCPS residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Civil Hospital Karachi in 2016. She further specialized with a Fellowship from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in 2018. To strengthen her expertise in minimally invasive procedures, she pursued a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery at Patel Hospital in 2020 - 2021. Her academic career has also included teaching roles as Assistant Professor at UMDC and as a Senior Registrar at Liaquat National Hospital.
Her clinical interests span general obstetrics and gynaecology, with a focus on maternal and reproductive health, as well as laparoscopic procedures. Beyond patient care, Dr Rehmani is deeply engaged in research on obstetrics and gynaecological laparoscopy, contributing to the growing body of knowledge in women’s health.
Her achievement marks a historic moment not only for AKU but also for Pakistan, inspiring many young doctors and women in the field of medicine. As the first Pakistani to be recognized with this gold medal, she sets a powerful example of excellence on the global stage.
